Intel has announced three new payloads designed for inspection, surveying and mapping applications for the Intel Falcon 8+ drone.

The Intel High Resolution Imaging Payload, which captures 42-megapixel images for highly detailed inspection data, is based on the full-frame Sony RX1R II camera. This payload will also support real-time kinematic positioning through a future software upgrade, says Intel.

The Intel Imaging Payload and Intel Dual Imaging Payload each support obstacle-avoidance capabilities to help enable safer missions. Featuring the 20-megapixel Sony UMC-R10C camera, the payloads deliver real-color, time-stamped and geo-referenced images for mapping, surveying and inspection.

The Intel Dual Imaging Payload has two cameras mounted on one gimbal for simultaneous RGB image capture and thermal imaging. It will be available next quarter. The Intel Imaging Payload, along with the Intel High Resolution Imaging Payload, will both be available later this quarter.

Unveiled in October 2016, the Intel Falcon 8+ drone was recently awarded a milestone safety certification from UL.
